Chapter one: Shadows in the night.
Setting::- Our story begins in Therigarde , Its a large coastal town with ships and merchants pulling into the harbor daily. Life here is almost perfect, or at least it was until recently. Three nights back it had been made public news that the towns current archon had fallen gravely ill, and that since he had no heir his brother would be taking over until a cure could be found. Shortly after these events all hell broke loose. The Archon's brother, Baron Vaelnis Caldwell, imposed martial law on the city, raised the taxes on trade goods in the market, put strict curfews in places, and otherwise brought complete misery on the people. Meanwhile the people of the town became worried and suspicious, the baron had never acted this way before, had he poisoned their precious archon? or was there something more sinister at work here?....
One thing however is certien. Around the time that the city was forced into poverty at the hands of the Archon's greedy brother, shadowy figures began to move around the city at night after sunset, and some folk even claim to have seen a black cloaked man with eyes like hellfire, his face is shrowded in darkness as his body is masked by a heavy fog. Claims of this 'demon' as they call him only lasted about a day, for people began to fear solitary confinement in the insane assylum.
Another strange event that has occured did not happen in the city, but off the coast where a strange island appeard in the distance. This island is always covered in shadow by the by the thick dark clouds that seem to hang over the peak of the mountian. Shortly after this island appeared doomsayers did as well, most telling the people of the region to repent and beg for forgiveness, though most of these are cought and imprisoned the moment they open their mouth, there are other, more clever ones who hold secret meetings and form cults to new and strange gods.
Despite everything that is happening the people of this city cling to the hope that their Archon will get better, despite the unliklyhood, for the high priests of the temple have said many times that 'death may hold the only key to our salvation'
